Kynoch Press Notebook, 1932

Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) is best known for watercolours and wood-engravings but he also painted murals and designed furniture, fabrics and ceramics.

Although he died when he was only 39, Ravilious was a prolific artist and somehow found time to engrave over 440 blocks. Many of them were catalogued in a book published in 1972 by the Lion and Unicorn Press at the Royal College of Art. It is inevitable that since then a number of deletions and additions have been identified so the present book sets out to illustrate all the engravings now known to have been made by Ravilious. He was a vivid correspondent and many of his letters (extracts from some published here for the first time), refer directly to the commission, engraving and reception of a number of the illustrations.
