The wood-engravings of John Nash was published in 1987
and it is only recently that we were shown a wood-engraving
that had been omitted from the book. It was of a cat and
brought the total number of cats to eight — six wood-engravings
and two woodcuts of which the original blocks were available
for five. A celebratory book seemed more appropriate than
an addendum sheet.
Ronald Blythe, who knew John and Christine Nash well,
has written a short piece to accompany the engravings:
his delightful story records the exploits of four Nash
cats many generations after those depicted in the cuts
in the book.
Sebastian Carter at the Rampant Lions Press has printed
the book.
32 pages, printed letterpress on Zerkall mould-made paper,
250 x 185mm, five of the cuts printed from the original
blocks, the other three printed litho, with a printed wrapper
over a card cover. 300 copies.
